A new identity for the charming Kyoto Shibori Museum.
The brief for this project was to create a brand identity that would showcase the fun and exciting nature of Shibori dyeing and appeal to the museums creative audience. My solution focused on the handcrafted and transformative nature of Shibori with a logo inspired by folding fabric, a technique used in Shibori dyeing. The logo type was then developed into a custom typeface that was rolled out on museum collateral. The colour palette is inspired by the natural indigo dye, with the touch of bright green referencing the colour of the dyed fabric before it oxidises. I picked this museum as it was one of the highlights of my trip to Japan. The staff were so kind & knowledgeable and I really enjoyed doing one of their traditional dyeing classes. I would definitely recommend visiting if you are ever in Kyoto!
